Prioritize Using The 80/20 Rule

The rule that could help you big time to maximize your time and achieve your goals.

Last month I shared with you my 9 steps to master time management.

Have you incorporated some of my tips? If so, how have you been doing since?

If you are still struggling in accomplishing your goals, I encourage you to try the 80/20 rule.

The 80/20 Rule

The 80/20 rule, also called  the “Pareto Principle” says that you tend to generate 80% of your results from 20% of your efforts.

Meaning that, on your daily to-do-list 2 out of 10 items are worth more than the other 8 items put together.

Why Apply The 80/20 Rule?

Do you feel you’re so busy every day, yet you don’t really get anything done? This is because you either, spend time working on unimportant or low priority tasks while procrastinating on the important and valuable activities, of which the rewards can be tremendous.

Apply the 80/20 rule as it will help you to maximize the use of your time so that you can reach the most important goals you have set for yourself.

How to get started?

The most valuable activities are often times the most complex and hardest, but as mentioned, the rewards for completing them can be huge.

Apply the “Pareto Principle” to either your personal or business goals and learn how to prioritize your tasks, days, weeks, and months.

Follow these steps and get started:

  • List your weekly activities.
  • Underline your non-negotiable activities.
  • Write down your top 3 goals and list all weekly activities that will bring you closer to those goals.
  • Make these tasks a priority in your calendar and eliminate or delegate low-priority tasks.
  • Before you start an activity, always ask yourself: “Will this task/activity bring me closer to my goals?”
  • Resist the temptation to clear up the low priority tasks first.

Commit today to spending more and more of your time working on those activities that can really make a difference in your life and/or career, and spend less and less time on lower valuable activities.
